Points System

PRO Skijor Frontier Tour — Official Points System (Revised: Best-3 Rule)

1) Events & Eligible Divisions

  • Sanctioned Tour Events: 5 Qualifiers + 1 Championship Finals

  • Eligible Divisions for Tour Standings: Pro, Sport, Women’s, All-Around, Snowboard.  (Must have purchased a PRO Card to declare for the tour to be eligible for tour points)

  • “For Fun” Divisions: Event-only; no Tour points

2) Teams, Divisions & Substitutions

  • Team + Division specific: Points accrue to the registered Team in the Division earned.

    • Points do not transfer between Teams or Divisions.

    • Points stay with the Team, not the individual horse/rider/skier.
  • Substitutions (injury only):

    • Requires a Vet or Doctor statement and must be approved by PRO Skijor officials.

    • Allowed until 24 hours before race day (no substitutions inside 24 hours)

    • Points stay with the Team, not the individual horse/rider/skier.

  • Multi-team / multi-division participation:
Individuals may appear on multiple Teams and in multiple Divisions in accorance with rules, regulations, division and cross over limits. Points never cross over.

3) Qualifier Scoring (per Division, per Event)

A) Placement Points

Place Points
1st 15
2nd 12
3rd 10
4th 8
5th 6
6th 5
7th 4
8th 3
9th 2
10th 1
  • Ties: Teams tied receive the same placement points; the next place(s) are skipped.

  • DNF / DSQ / No Time: No placement points.

B) Attendance & Completion Bonuses (stackable)

  • +2 Attendance: Awarded once per Team per Division per event upon on-site check-in for that Division. (No-shows do not receive it.)

  • +3 Completion: Awarded once per Team per Division per event for completing at least one official run (time/score recorded) in that Division.

  • Max Qualifier event bonus = +5 (Attendance + Completion)

    • If no time/score is recorded, a Team can still earn +2 Attendance.

C) Series Completion Bonus (Tour Bonus)

  • +5 Series Completion Bonus: Earned if a Team (in that Division) completes all 5 Qualifiers with:

    • Attendance (+2) at each Qualifier and

    • Completion (+3) at each Qualifier (records at least one official run at all 5)

D) “Best-3” Rule (UPDATED with built-in flexibility)

  • Entering Finals, each Team’s Qualifier placement total uses the best 3 of 5 Qualifier placement results.

  • Why Best-3 matters: If you can’t make it to all 5 Qualifiers, or if you have a tough weekend (DNF/DSQ/no score/low placement), you can still stay in the hunt because only your top 3 placement finishes count toward your Qualifier placement total.

  • Bonuses are not dropped.
Attendance/Completion bonuses and the Series Completion Bonus apply in full (they do not use Best-3).

4) Finals Scoring (per Division)

  • Finals placement points are doubled using the same placement scale.

    • Examples: 1st = 30, 2nd = 24, 3rd = 20, 4th = 16, … 10th = 2

  • Finals Attendance/Completion bonuses:

    • +2 Attendance upon on-site check-in for that Division

    • +3 Completion for completing at least one official run (time/score recorded)

    • Max Finals bonus = +5 (Attendance + Completion)
(Finals weight is primarily via double placement points.)

5) Season Total (per Team, per Division)

A Team’s Season Total is:

  1. Best 3 of 5 Qualifier placement points, plus

  2. All Qualifier Attendance (+2) and Completion (+3) bonuses earned, plus

  3. Series Completion Bonus (+5) if achieved, plus

  4. Finals placement points (doubled), plus

  5. Finals Attendance (+2) and Completion (+3) bonuses earned

6) Tie-Breakers (in order)

  1. Most event wins (including Finals)

  2. Most events attended (Qualifiers with at least Attendance +2 in that Division)

  3. Highest Finals placing

  4. Highest single-event point total (after Finals doubling)

  5. If still tied: co-champions or an additional published method (e.g., head-to-head at Finals)

7) Qualification for the Championship Finals

  • After the five Qualifiers are complete, rank Teams by Season Total pre-Finals (everything in Sections 3 & 5, excluding Finals points).

  • Qualifiers: Top N (tbd) teams per Division (e.g., Top 20) qualify for Finals.

  • Minimum participation: Teams must earn at least Attendance (+2) at two Qualifiers in that Division to be eligible.

  • Alternates: Next 3 Teams (e.g., 21–23) listed as alternates to backfill withdrawals/no-shows.

  • Optional wildcards (if announced): Up to 2 per Division reserved by the Tour for special circumstances (injury return, host city rep, etc.). Wildcards must meet basic safety/eligibility standards.

8) Admin Policies

  • Results window: Corrections accepted up to 72 hours after posting; standings update accordingly.

  • Minimum field size: None required; points table applies to all fields.

  • One-per-event rule: All bonuses are awarded once per Team per Division per event.

9) Balance Check — How It Works (Updated examples)

These examples show two important realities:

  • Consistency across all 5 Qualifiers (even with average/below-average placements) can still help you build points and stay competitive for Finals qualification.

  • With Best-3, Teams that can only attend 3 Qualifiers can still rank well if they perform mid to above average in those events.

Example A) 5-event “consistent grinder” (average/below-average performance; attends & completes all 5; Finals 6th)

Qualifier placements: 8th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 10th+
Placement points: 3, 2, 3, 4, 1

  • Best-3 placement: 4 + 3 + 3 = 10

  • Qualifier Attendance/Completion: 5 × (2+3) = 25

  • Series Completion Bonus: +5

  • Finals 6th (double): 10

  • Finals Attendance/Completion: +5

Total: 10 + 25 + 5 + 10 + 5 = 55

Example B) 3-event “high performer” (mid to above-average performance; attends only 3; Finals 6th)

Qualifier placements: 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Placement points: 12, 10, 8

  • Best-3 placement: 12 + 10 + 8 = 30

  • Qualifier Attendance/Completion: 3 × (2+3) = 15

  • Series Completion Bonus: 0

  • Finals 6th (double): 10

  • Finals Attendance/Completion: +5

Total: 30 + 15 + 0 + 10 + 5 = 60

Conclusion: You don’t necessarily need to race all 5 Qualifiers to do well in the standings. Best-3 rewards strong results in the events you attend, while consistent participation across the full season can still build points and keep you in contention.

10) Plain-English Summary

  • Tour Divisions: Pro, Sport, Women’s, All-Around, Snowboard who have purchased a PRO Card and declared eligibility for tour points and standings.  "Just for fun" divisions do not qualify.

  • You earn points two ways at Qualifiers:

    1. Placement points for how you finish (1st = 15 down to 10th = 1)

    2. Bonuses for showing up and completing a run: +2 Attendance (check-in) and +3 Completion (record a time/score), for up to +5 per Qualifier

  • Best-3 = flexibility: Your Qualifier placement total uses your best 3 finishes out of 5 Qualifiers.

    • That means you can miss a Qualifier or have a rough weekend and still stay in the hunt, because only your top 3 placement results count.

  • Consistency still helps: Attendance/Completion bonuses add up across the season, and if you attend + complete all 5 Qualifiers, you also earn a +5 Series Completion Bonus.

  • Finals are the big stage: Championship Finals placement points count double, using the same point scale (1st = 30, 2nd = 24, etc.).

  • Bottom line:

    • A Team that races all 5 Qualifiers with average/below-average results can still build a solid score through consistency and bonuses.

    • A Team that only makes 3 Qualifiers can still rank well by performing mid to above average in those events—because Best-3 rewards quality finishes, not just total appearances.

  • Points stay with the Team:

    • Points stay with the Team, not the individual horse/rider/skier.  No points cross between Teams or Divisions; substitutions are injury-only with required documentation and PRO Skijor official approval.
