  • RULES & REGULATIONS

This guide covers the essentials: eligibility and divisions, multiple entries, cross-division entries, and running limits for horses and athletes; required safety; course, timing, and rerun protocol; scoring and tiebreakers; plus penalties, protests, and conduct. Know exactly what’s allowed - and how to set up your best (and safest) run. Click to read the full rules.

  • PROTESTS & APPEALS

Here’s how we keep calls fair - and the show moving. Multi-camera 4K replay with a paid ski-racing judge reviews every run (and when in doubt, the call goes to the skier). Decisions are based on video in real time, so no protests/appeals - fans get more racing, less downtime. Read the full explainer.

As we get closer to racing season, check back here for a growing list of pro tips and travel recommendations to make your road time easier - everything from where to board your horses to nearby hotels and restaurants, competitor registration and socials, race check-in details, and event-by-event schedules. We truly appreciate the time and effort you put into traveling down the road, and our goal is to give you as many resources as possible to keep it convenient, smooth, and stress-free.

  • DIVISION ENTRY & CROSSOVER LIMITS

At PRO Skijor and throughout the Frontier Tour, our goal is to create as much opportunity as possible for our competitors. We recognize the commitment it takes to travel down the road, and we want every team to have the chance to maximize that investment - both in terms of competition and reward. Our division and crossover guidelines are designed to help teams safely compete in as many divisions and combinations as possible, giving riders, skiers, and horses multiple chances to earn points, chase payouts, and qualify for the Championship Finals. These limits are not meant to restrict participation, but rather to balance fairness, safety, and opportunity - ensuring that every competitor has the best chance to succeed and make their time on tour worthwhile.

    1. SCOPE

    • These rules apply to tour-only divisions (PRO, SPORT, Women’s, All-Around, Snowboard). They do not apply to Just for Fun divisions
      - see that section for its rules.  Tour only divisions are eligible for Tour points, buckles, prizes, and cash payouts. Tour membership is optional. You can enter any stop without joining the Tour and still win that event’s buckles, prizes, and cash payouts in your division. Tour membership (PRO Card) is only needed for season points, rankings, and Championship Finals eligibility.
    • CORE DIVISIONS:  SPORT & PRO
    • NON-CORE DIVISIONS:  Women’s, All-Around, Snowboard

    2. PURPOSE

    • Maximize racing opportunities at each tour event while keeping things safe, fair, and simple - especially for teams traveling the tour.

    3. CORE RULES (Who Can Do What)

    RIDER

    • Max per tour event: 8 total runs
    • Max 4 in core, all in a SPORT or PRO, or split them - as long as horse limits and pairing rule are met.
    • Up to 4 more in a non-core division, or split across non-core divisions (women's, all-around, snowboard) as long as horse limits and pairing rule are met.

    SKIER

    • Core Division: Pick PRO or SPORT (no Skier crossover between them).
    • Core Division Entries: up to 4 teams in your chosen core division, each behind a different horse.
    • Optional non-core add on: up to 2 additional teams total across Women’s / All-Around / Snowboard; as long as horse limits and pairing rule are met.
    • Non-Core Division Only: up to 4 teams total across non-core divisions, as long as horse, rider limits and pairing rule are met.

    HORSE

    • Core divisions: up to 2 teams total in either PRO or SPORT (not both).
    • Tour division cap: up to 4 teams total.
    • Owners/Riders must ensure fitness for the planned workload.  YOU decide if your horse is capable of participating on up to 4 teams.

    PER-DIVISION PAIRING RULE

    • The same Skier–Horse pairing may appear once per individual division as long as all horse, rider, skier limits are honored (e.g., once in SPORT, once in Women’s and once in All-Around, if horse/rider/skier limits are met).

    QUICK CROSS-CHECK

    • RIDER ≤ 8 total runs per tour event (up to 4 in core divisions and up to 4 in non-core divisions)
    • SKIER: choose PRO or SPORT; ≤ 4 in that core (each behind a different horse);
    • If core-entered: +2 total across non-core.
    • If non-core-only: ≤ 4 total across non-core divisions.
    • HORSE: ≤ 2 in either PRO or SPORT (not both); + 2 in non-core. ≤ 4 tour-event-wide.
    • Same Skier–Horse: once per division.

    EXAMPLES (Brief)

    • Core + Non-core: If Sally (Skier) and David (Rider) run Mister Ed (horse) in PRO, they may also run Mister Ed in All-Around (different division = allowed).
    • Non-Core-Only: A Skier may run 4 total non-core teams (e.g. 1 Women’s, 2 All-Around, 1 Snowboard).
    • Horse Cap: A horse can be used twice in PRO and twice in Women’s = 4 tour-event-wide max (legal).
    • Numerous combinations exist.  All horse/rider/skier limits and division pairing rules apply to any combination.

    AFFILIATE DISCLAIMER

Driggs and Bozeman are affiliate races (independently owned/operated); their rules and limits may varyTour points will be tracked at these stops for registered PRO Card teams who have declared for the tour.  Affiliate limits and cross-over policies may differ, teams should strategize entries at those stops to optimize tour points and
    standings
    .

    RULES & REGULATIONS
  • HOW THE PRO CARD WORKS

The PRO Card is how your team officially declares participation in the PRO Skijor Frontier Tour - signaling that you plan to compete in two or more tour races, have your points tracked, and chase qualification for the Championship Finals. Because points, standings, and finals qualification are tracked per team (not per individual), a PRO Card is required for every team that is declaring for the tour. This means if you compete on multiple teams, each team will need its own PRO Card. For example, if the same rider and skier compete together in both the Sport and Women’s divisions, they’ll need one PRO Card for each team.

Purchasing a PRO Card is essentially your team’s entry into the tour itself - your way of saying, “We’re in it for the season.” The $25 PRO Card fee is a one-time registration per team for the tour (not per event), and it’s your team’s “bet” that you’ll qualify for the Championship Finals. Teams that qualify will not pay any entry fees for the Finals - participation in that event is free for all qualifying teams.

PRO Cards apply to all competitive tour divisions - PRO, Sport, Women’s, All-Around, and Snowboard. “Just-for-Fun” teams do not require a PRO Card, as those divisions are limited to individual events. Teams may still compete in tour divisions at single events without purchasing a PRO Card; however, only teams with a PRO Card will have their points tracked, standings maintained, and eligibility for Finals qualification recognized.

Teams are encouraged to register their PRO Cards by January 1, 2026 to declare for the season. Beyond standings and Finals eligibility, PRO Card holders also receive exclusive athlete perks such as race-day food discounts, merchandise deals, sponsor specials, and hotel discounts - which vary by event and venue.

In short, the PRO Card is a small investment that opens the door to a season of big opportunity - recognition, rewards, and a clear path to the Championship Finals.

  • PRO TIP: RECRUIT TEAM SPONSORS

We encourage teams to recruit their own sponsors - it’s one of the best ways to get extra support for entry fees, travel, and gear. Sponsors can be anyone from a small local business to a large national brand. Team sponsors that you bring on are your own relationships to negotiate and manage; PRO Skijor does not control or oversee those agreements. This is separate and different from PRO Skijor tour-wide or event sponsors, which are handled by us at the series or race level.

What we do provide is a professional platform to help you give your sponsors real exposure. You can ask sponsors to contribute toward your costs or provide equipment/gear for you, your skier, rider, or horse. In return, you might:

    • Name your team after the sponsor (e.g., “Ted’s Ski Shop”), so that name appears on the PRO Skijor website, running orders, and results.
    • Gain repeated mentions from announcers, on the big screen, and on livestream/broadcast graphics.
    • Feature and tag your sponsor on your social media and wear branded jackets, vests, saddle pads, or other swag so they’re visible to fans and viewers.

So yes - we strongly encourage you to go get team sponsors, and we aim to give you a strong platform to promote them. All terms, deals, and management of those sponsorships, however, are strictly between you and your sponsor and do not involve PRO Skijor.
