to Know to Compete
New to PRO Skijor or just getting ready for the season? Here's the essential information every competitor needs — from showing up to race day to chasing the season standings.
Who Can Compete
Anyone with a passion for horses, skiing, or snowboarding — first-timers to seasoned pros. You can enter a single event just for fun or chase the full season for points and standings.
How to Enter
Register online for each event you'd like to compete in. Entry windows and caps vary by stop — register early as events fill up fast. If you're chasing the season, you'll also need a PRO Card.
The PRO Card
Your PRO Card is your official tour membership — it signals you're in it for the season. It's required to have your points tracked, appear in standings, and qualify for the Championship Finals.
Divisions
PRO Skijor offers multiple divisions — PRO, Sport, Women's, All-Around, and Snowboard earn tour points. Just-for-Fun divisions are also available at most stops for those competing without a PRO Card.
Equipment Basics
Western saddle with breast collar, bell/splint boots recommended. Standard rope: 33 ft straight, 3/8"+ diameter, no handles or knots. Slalom-type race skis or snowboard tuned for sharp edges.
Race Day
Typically one run per day per entry over two days. Fastest combined time wins. Start orders are set by draw or seeding. Helmets are required for skiers and snowboarders.
Points & Standings
Points are earned at each qualifying event and stack across the season. Top teams by division earn an invitation to the Championship Finals — entry is free for all qualifying teams.
Courses
Varied layouts — straight, L-turn, or U-shape — typically 600–1,200 ft with breakaway gates, jumps, and occasional ring grabs. Each stop has its own personality and course design.
Affiliate Events
Some tour stops are independently owned and operated affiliate events. Points earned at affiliates count toward the season standings. Check each affiliate's website for their own registration and rules.
Recruit Team Sponsors
One of the best ways to offset entry fees, travel, and gear. Sponsors can range from a small local business to a large national brand. PRO Skijor provides the platform — you own the relationship.
Name your team after your sponsor so it appears on the website, running orders, and results. Earn repeated announcer mentions, big-screen callouts, and livestream graphics. All terms and deals are strictly between you and your sponsor.
Know the Rules
Covers eligibility and divisions, multiple entries, cross-division entries, and running limits for horses and athletes. Required safety gear, course and timing protocol, scoring and tiebreakers, plus penalties, protests, and conduct.
Read the Full RulesOur goal is to maximize racing opportunities while keeping things safe, fair, and simple. Applies to tour-only divisions: PRO, Sport, Women's, All-Around, Snowboard. Does not apply to Just for Fun divisions.

Quick Cross-Check
- Rider: ≤8 total (≤4 core, ≤4 non-core)
- Skier: PRO or Sport; ≤4 core; +2 non-core if core-entered; ≤4 non-core if non-core only
- Horse: ≤2 in PRO or Sport (not both); ≤4 tour-event-wide
- Same Skier–Horse: once per division
Affiliate Events (Driggs & Bozeman): These events are independently owned and operated — their rules and limits may vary. Tour points are tracked at these stops for registered PRO Card teams. If affiliate limits differ, teams should strategize entries to optimize tour points and standings.
There are no protests or appeals at PRO Skijor events. Here's how we keep calls fair — and the show moving.
A paid ski-racing judge reviews every run in the production trailer using multi-camera, multi-view 4K replay. They watch every gate on the course live with replay and slow-mo when needed. Decisions are made from close-up video monitors in real time — so fans get more racing, less downtime.
Course officials' decisions are final. Where judgment applies, the benefit of the doubt goes to the skier. We ask all competitors, officials, and spectators to practice good sportsmanship at all times.
